The Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund is located at No. 2, Zhongshan East 1st Road, Huangpu District, in the heart of the Bund. It was originally the site of the "Shanghai Association", a British gentlemen's club built in 1911. In 2011, it was renovated and reopened by Hilton Group, becoming the only hotel landmark among the Bund's international architectural complex that combines historical legend with modern luxury. The hotel consists of two buildings - the historic main building and the modern tower. The exterior facade of the buildings blends British classicism and Baroque elements, with arched gates, Ionic columns and a 34-meter-long black and white marble corridor bar (once known as the "No. 1 Bar in the Far East") perfectly recreating the glory of a hundred years ago. The interior was designed by Japanese architect Kikutaro Shimoda. Blending decorative art with contemporary luxury, Swarovski crystal chandeliers and hand-painted murals interweave to create an immersive experience of "a new scene at every step".
The 260 guest rooms and suites range in size from 45 to 260 square meters. The Haoya riverside rooms are equipped with panoramic floor-to-ceiling Windows, offering a direct view of the "three-piece set" of the Huangpu River and the historical buildings along the Bund. The presidential suite covers an area of 260 square meters and features an independent living room, a marble bathroom with two washbasins and a whirlpool bath. The hand-painted decoration of "The Four Seasons of the Bund" hanging on the headboard and the details of Ferragamo bathroom fixtures exudes luxury. Some suites retain the original wooden stairs and historical patterns, allowing you to feel the texture of the century-old building as you walk.
The dining space can be called a "museum of taste" : Baiwei Garden offers French semi-buffet lunches, such as crispy roast chicken with spiced roasted potatoes and slow-cooked red wine beef brisket. Weijing Pavilion specializes in authentic Shanghai cuisine, Cantonese cuisine and Huaiyang cuisine. The crab roe xiaolongbao and black truffle baked chicken carry on the Shanghai-style flavor. The afternoon tea at Pujianghui, renowned for its red velvet cake, is paired with classic cocktails and oysters from the lounge bar, recreating the golden age of "Oriental Paris". The newly opened Linglong Restaurant is helmed by chef Liu Hesen. With the concept of "Re-fine Dining", it combines local ingredients with modern cooking, such as fresh shrimp and scallop pesto pasta and pan-fried sea bass. Paired with a wine list designed by sommelier Lyu Yang, it creates an exquisite taste journey.
The recreational facilities include a fitness center on the third floor (Tenojian equipment, steam room, sauna) and an indoor heated swimming pool. The Forbes five-star spa offers a combination of traditional Chinese massage and Swiss high-tech beauty treatments. The hotel specially offers a "Historical Building Tour" service. You can make an appointment to explore the Baroque-style wind pavilion, the iron grille west gate and the historical photo exhibition of the headquarters building. Every night, the senior jazz band plays the golden hits of the last century in the lobby, becoming a part of the living history. Within a three-kilometer radius, there are scenic spots such as the Bund, Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street, City God Temple, Yu Garden, and Oriental Pearl Tower. It is within walking distance of Metro Lines 2 and 10, and only 15 kilometers from Hongqiao International Airport.
