Aman Shanghai Yangyun

As the 30th Aman hotel in the world, the project took 16 years and cost 3.3 billion yuan. It relocated 50 ancient residences from the Ming and Qing dynasties and 10,000 ancient camphor trees from Fuzhou, Jiangxi Province over a distance of 800 kilometers. It was designed by Pritzker Prize winner Kerry Hill, integrating Huizhou-style architectural elements with modern minimalist aesthetics, creating a spatio-temporal dialogue of "rebirth of ancient residences".

The hotel was transformed from the Shikumen architectural complex of the 1930s. It fully retains Shanghai-style elements such as plain red bricks, horse-head gable walls, and semi-circular arched dooropenings. The exterior facade adopts the original restoration process, while the interior was designed by the late design master Jaya Ibrahim, integrating Chinese rattan screens, French walnut furniture and marble bathrooms.
